James Dean Signed Warner Bros. Document Discussing Rebel Without A Cause and Giant (1955). Vintage original 2-page typed letter on 8.5" x 11" onionskin leaf featuring Warner Bros. Pictures letterhead, dated April 2, 1955, and addressed to James Dean, notifying him that the studio was extending his term of employment, and reads in part: "We exercised the right or option granted to us under the provisions of... said contract to extend the term thereof for the additional period... commencing December 20, 1954, and ending sixty-one (61) days after the completion by you of all services required by us in connection with the production of the motion picture to be produced by us during said extended term (the motion picture in which you are now rendering services tentatively entitled "Rebel Without A Cause"... The motion picture in connection with the production in which you shall render your services under said contract during the term... thereof shall be the motion picture tentatively entitled "Giant," with you portraying the role of "Jett Rink"..."

Document is signed at the bottom of the second page by James Dean and A.J. Obringer. The production of Giant began shortly after Rebel Without A Cause wrapped. Dean ultimately perished before Giant wrapped, seeing neither of his final accomplishments on the big screen. Rebel has been touted as his greatest accomplishment, while Giant earned him the first posthumous Academy Award nomination.
